Understanding Your Cat

Even though cats nowadays live in a safe and homely environment, they maintain many of the physical and behavioral characteristics of their wild ancestors. Understanding feline behavior will help you develop a more intense and loving relationship with your cat, to keep it happy and healthy.

Evolution has made the cat a perfect predator. It's body is a miracle of physical engineering, designed for a cruel attack and an agile defense. The flexible, almost elastic spinal column gives cats a wide range of movements and can slide through the smallest spaces. It's flexible yet powerful muscles are another contribution to its speed and agility, they help cats run at full speed and climb and jump with the grace and ease of an athlete. The cat, as a nocturnal hunter, has very acute senses to not only stalk and catch it's prey but to help avoid predators. Cats are sensitive to sound even when they are sleeping and are capable of jumping into action at the slightest sign of danger.

Cats were lifesavers during the bombing of Great Britain in the Second World War. Their acute ear let them sense the approaching enemy planes from far away. When they escaped for protection their owners followed.
