Smoke and Gray Cats

Smoke and Gray Cats

When the tipped is more intense it is denominated shaded. If the basic color is red over white, it is considered as a shaded red cat. If the basic color is black over pure white, the combination is denominated silvered shaded; in this case the tipped usually appears with the tabby pattern.

In some countries a variety of silvered shaded with coppered eyes, instead of the usual green or hazel eyes is admitted. On the gilt shaded, a combination of black over cream appears.

Finally, there is the cases of the amazing more intense tipped, the smoked or smoke. The most common is black over pure white, but you can also find blue, chocolate, red, cream blue, lilac and tortoise.

White Spot Cats
It is considered that a cat has white spots when it presents white spots over a cloak of another color.

The color white is not due to the W gene, but to the dominant S gene. The extension of the white can go from small “gloves” in the paws or a dash of white on the nose or the chest (harlequin”) up to an almost total white combined with a touch of color spots.

The most spectacular extensions of white are given in the van Turk that only presents hazel tone on the face, ears and tail. The van pattern also appears on Persian cats.

The presence of smaller white zones over a solid colored cloak produces the bicolor effect. The white zone usually occupies from one third to one half of the total hair.

The whiter variety of tortoise, with white, black and red stains, is denominated calico. The Japanese bobtail is a bicolor race.
