It’s better to visit a veterinarian as soon as you take the cat to live in your home. Council with cat lovers that live near your home and ask them to recommend one that knows a lot about cats and that has an emergency service twenty-four hours a day. The veterinarian may also give you some helpful counsel about important matters such as; nutrition, vaccinations, getting rid of parasites and castration. If you adopt a stray cat or one from an animal shelter, you must do a sanitation control before placing it with the rest of the cats in your home. It may look healthy but it may be incubating some type of infectious disease. It may even be a “healthy carrier”, for example; it’s possible that a cat may carry a deadly sickness such as an infectious feline peritonitis (IFP), and can infect other cats without it showing any symptoms whatsoever. As a precaution, ask your veterinarian to do a blood analysis to verify if the new cat has any viral infections.

It pays to have a sanitary insurance to be able to cover the costs of the veterinary check-ups. If your cat has an unexpected sickness or accident, you’ll have enough to think about without worrying about the additional veterinarian costs. Paying a monthly fee you’ll have coverage of the majority of the costs at the veterinarian as well as for any special treatment it may need.
