Cat Health Care and Saying Good Bye

Cat Health Care and
Saying Good Bye

Regular veterinarian controls every nine months are advisable, to be aware of your cats health and be able to treat any problem in time. For example, progressive kidney damage is common in older cats and is irreversible, but if diagnosed in time, it is possible to extend the life of the cat with medication and a low protein diet. The following are indications of serious health problems:

  • An increase of thirst and urine is a sure sign of liver or kidney problems or diabetes.
  • Bad breathe and refusal to eat can be indications gingivitis, kidney disease or both. Check the teeth and gums to see if there is yellow or brown plaque, swollen gums or ulcers in the mouth.
  • Difficulty urinating indicates cystitis or feline urinary tract disease.

Note: Puss, a tabby cat from England, was the oldest cat in the world. It died in 1939, the day after its thirty-sixth birthday.

The Final Curtain
When you love an animal very much, it’s natural to want to keep it alive at any cost. But if your cat has a condition that can’t be treated and is suffering great pain or anguish, you should consider putting it to sleep. It isn’t something easy to do and the pain inevitably includes feelings of guilt. But remember that the last kindness an owner can offer is to die with dignity.

The veterinarian will administer an overdose of anesthetic and your cat will quickly fall into a permanent and painless sleep. Some owners choose to cremate their pets and conserve the ashes in a special container. Others choose to bury their pet in the garden.

It’s natural to suffer from the death of a loved pet and you shouldn’t feel uncomfortable doing so. Months or even years may pass until you can think of your at without anguish or pain. You ended up with a cat-shaped hole in your life, but many adorable memories to cherish.
