Acknowledgment of Breeds
In each decade “new” races have been recognized, be it by spontaneous discoveries, or by the introduction of new varieties from other countries, like the variety of the Angora cat denominated Van Turk. While many “new” races have acquired exhibition categories, the fortune of other has suffered ups and downs. For example, the angora eat pass on of fashion in 1900 for the western world and didn’t originate any interest until the introduction of new breeding couples from turkey in the sixties. On the other hand, the Maine Coon, in spite of being very appreciated by many families in the United States, wasn’t recognized by the cat fanciers’ association of America until the sixties. The Pedigree But what is a cat with pedigree? The answer depends in a great measure on the country. As it has been mentioned before, the feline associations of different countries (and sometimes even in the same countries) recognize the races individually inside their environment of action. Anyway, in general a cat with pedigree is that with ancestors of acknowledged race that are duly documented and registered during at least four generations. The registration is the main function of the feline associations, and without it no cats would have pedigree. You usually register the whelps when they reach the six weeks of age. The origin certificate or of pedigree includes the birth date. Description and race, sex, details of the ancestors up to the number of generations required, name of the breeder and of the owner, and of course the name of the whelp. The IFF also applies a descriptive code for the race, the color and the physiological characteristics of the cat to make it easy to identify. |
